King Philip II of Spain (1527-1598) was also King Philip I of Portugal, the King of Naples and Sicily, the Duke of Milan, and the lord of the Seventeen Provinces of the Netherlands. He was the son of Charles V and Isabella of Portugal. He was part of the house of Habsburg and was Catholic. While he was married to Queen Mary I (1554-1558), he was the co-ruler of England and Ireland. His empire was massive and the Philippines were named for him.
