(Pl. landhuizen), the Dutch word that both to the “great house” (kas di shon or kas grandi) and the estate itself, including warehouses, water cisterns, stables, corrals, guard stations, cells for punishing slaves, the slave huts, and familial burial grounds. Typically, the kas grandi was on a raised platform that gave it a commanding view of the estate and the enslaved people who worked there.
