Oliver DeLancey, Phila’s husband, was a wealthy merchant, a famous politician, and a member of one of New York’s most powerful families. DeLancey remained a Loyalist during the American Revolution serving as a senior officer in the British Army in America. The DeLanceys went to England where DeLancey died in 1785.
