Isaacs was born in the Netherlands, but raised in England. He came to the United States to be the Rabbi of the (Orthodox) Ashkenazi Congregation B’nai Jeshurun, but by 1853 was the Rabbi of the break away congregation Shaaray Tefila on Wooster Street. He was the editor of the Jewish Messenger.
