Port Jews

Jews who lived in port towns, that is,  towns with a harbor on a river or the ocean where ships load or unload. Usually port Jews were involved in shipping or trade. Historian Helen Fry argues that many Port Jews were “refugees from the Inquisition.” In Europe, they ports such as Amsterdam, London, Trieste and Hamburg.
