Also known as Qahal Kadosh Sha’ar ha-Shamayim (Hebrew: קָהָל קָדוֹשׁ שַׁעַר הַשָׁמַיִם, “Holy Congregation Gate of Heaven”), Bevis Marks is the oldest synagogue in the United Kingdom in continuous use. The design of the building echoes the Esnoga in Amsterdam, and like the Esnoga it is a Spanish and Portuguese congregation. Many early synagogues in the British colonies were offspring of this congregation.
Rabbi Shalom Morris of Bevis Marks has many fine videos explaining the customs and history of the congregation.
