Maria Louisa de Hart

(1826-1810). Born enslaved in Suriname, Maria Louisa was freed at a young age by her Jewish father Mozes Meijer de Hart. She married Johannes Ellis and the couple lived in great style in Paramaribo before moving to Amsterdam in the 1860s. Their son Abraham George Ellis became a Vice-Admirable and Cabinet member. She died in the Hague at the age of 83.
