Neve Shalom

(“Oasis of Peace”), the majestic High German or “Ashkenazi” synagogue in Paramaribo, Suriname built in 1719. Also the name of the Portuguese synagogue in Spanish Town, Jamaica that no longer exists but was built in 1704. Unlike the Neve Shalom Spanish Town which fell into ruin and collapsed, Neve Shalom of Paramaribo is beautifully preserved inside and out and still is home to a congregation and regular services.
