Rebecca Moses

Rebecca Moses lived in New York, and is depicted here cutting silhouttes “of her friends Fanny and Hyam Asher.” Silhouette making was a popular past time for women during this era. Although no known silhouettes that she made have been preserved, her craft is memorialized by the most famous silhouette artist of her day, Auguste Edouart.  She is an important reminder of Jewish women’s role in the arts.
